Welcome to the New Dungeness Lighthouse

The New Dungeness Lighthouse is one of the oldest lighthouses in the Northwest and is one of the very few that allow families an opportunity to be Lighthouse Keepers for a week. It is located at the tip of the 5-mile long Dungeness Spit in Sequim, Washington. The Lighthouse has been in continuous operation, providing navigational aids to ships in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, since its completion in 1857.

The Light Station is maintained and operated by the New Dungeness Light Station Association, whose vision is that "The New Dungeness Light Station will be the finest example of historic restoration, preservation and interpretation in the Nation". Membership in the association furthers the mission of the preservation, restoration, and interpretation of the site. Members are eligible to become Keepers.
Select the Keepers tab for more information about this unique opportunity and live the life of a Lighthouse Keeper!

The New Dungeness Light Station is open to the public. Tours of the Lighthouse are available every day, free of charge. Be sure to check the Tide Tables for the local Dungeness Bay area before attempting the walk out to the Lighthouse!

Boat transportation can be arranged by calling Capt. Charles Martin at (360) 775-228 or visiting his website.

SCHEDULING FOR 2013
Keeper scheduling reservations for 2013 can now be made. NDLSA Members who have not stayed at the Lighthouse in the last two (2) years are eligible to make requests during January of 2012. Then, as of February 1st, all remaining dates become available to any NDLSA member. The 2013 transfer times are now posted on the AVAILABILITY page.
To make a reservation request during your eligibility period, simply send an e-mail with your name, number in party, and requested dates to Scheduling. You may also call the office at (360) 683-6638 and leave a detailed message. Don't bother sending a request until either the January or February eligibility period opens- we will ignore it!
If you are not yet a member of NDLSA, you can still request a week, but you will have to join wthin 14 days.
Please note the new CANCELLATION policy, which will require a $50 per person non-refundable deposit be paid upon your request being confirmed.

HAND DRYER NEEDED
The Light Station public restroom is in need of an electric hand dryer. This device will allow us to stop using cloth towels in the restroom, with all the Keeper oversight and laundry requrements.
Please remember to visit the Our Needs page to see  what donations the Light Station needs!

NEW GRANTS
The Association is proud to announce that we are the recipients of a grant from the Benjamin N. Phillips Memorial Fund that will help pay for the replacement of our broken vent ball on the top of the lighthouse lantern room! A new casting has been ordered and the replacement should happen this winter.

We also have just received a grant from the Cheney Foundation of Tacoma that will be used to help pay for safety upgrades at the Station.

NEW CANCELLATION POLICY
The Association Board of Directors has established a new Keeper's Cancellation Policy that includes a $50/pp non-refundable deposit.. The new policy will go into effect beginning with invoices sent January of 2012. Click HERE to see a copy of the new policy.

PLUMBING UPGRADE AT STATION
Thanks to a grant from the Washington State Lighthouse Environmental Program (funded by the special lighthouse license plates) we now have a 'normal' plumbing system!
This means that our lawn sprinklers now operate just like the ones at home. Turn them on and off using the hose bibs (faucets) on the side of the building. There is no longer an on/off switch in the west basement. You can have just one sprinkler on, or both, set to any flow.

HISTORIC FIRE VIDEO
We have recently discovered a video compilation of news reports from the July, 1999 fire on Dungeness Spit that threatened to destroy the Lighthouse. This 17 minute video has been converted to digital format and uploaded on the PHOTO GALLERY page. Thanks to Andre and Patti Kamber, Keepers on the scene that day, for this video.
