"The New Dungeness Light Station will be the finest example of historic restoration, preservation and interpretation in the Nation"
The New Dungeness Light Station Association Vision

The U.S. Coast Guard withdrew its last Keeper from the automated Light Station in March of 1994. It planned to board up the buildings and maintain the equipment with regular inspections, a move necessitated by budget reductions and made possible by automation. Many other unattended light stations have experienced damage by vandals and general deterioration. The New Dungeness Light Station escaped this fate because of the foresight and subsequent hard work of the New Dungeness Lightstation Association. The Association organized in early 1994 with the mission of protecting and preserving the Station. It obtained a renewable license with the U.S. Coast Guard to care for the station.

The basis for the Association's stated goals is embodied in the license, its By Laws, and a Vision: The New Dungeness Light Station will be the finest example of historic restoration, preservation and interpretation in the Nation. The Association instituted a rigorous maintenance program, stabilized physically declining structures, replaced fatigued equipment, and upgraded systems.

Access to the Light Station is limited to hikers at low tide and small boats in calm seas; nevertheless, Keepers have greeted approximately 35,000 visitors since 1994.
The safety and security of the property has been vastly improved since 1994 with quarterly safety audits, emergency protocols, communication equipment, first aid supplies and fire equipment.

The Association has developed an Interpretive Center in the Lighthouse to inform visitors about the historic and present significance of the Light Station. The Association works with the U.S. Coast Guard, which maintains the lantern and foghorn, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. It has the support of the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe, Clallam County Sheriff's Department, Clallam County Fire District No. 3, Sequim Chamber of Commerce, and local leaders.
